What causes a rattling in the engine in a Vauxhall Vectra?

What causes a rattling in the engine in a Vauxhall Vectra 2.2 (Old Style) Manual car between 2,000 revs and 3,500. This happens all the time when the engine is warm. The engine does not rattle when idol. The engine has previously been low on oil but is not now.
Please could someone give me a idea of what it might be?

TBH mate it could be a chain fault. When you say old style do you mean vec b or c? These chains need a good supply of oil if they dont get it they can snap, in fact not can, but will snap and the first sign is a rattle. I'd get it to a Garage ASAP and get it looked at.

yep, it does sound like it wants a camchain/balancer chain kit...,
