    Default Tracker for life

I was just reading ERT (for work guv) and saw an Ad. for a GPS tracker type device that is for use to tracks your kids, dog, car etc.
Sounds like a good deal if it powers from your car as you don't need to subscribe, you can simply track online, by SMS, or by calling their call centre

I've seen that before whilst looking for a cost-effective alternative to Trackstar et al. I was put off by the fact it's GPS based and so needs line of sight to the sky. If your car gets stolen and left in a multi-storey car park while the thieves wait and see if the police are tracking it, the Zoombak won't help.

In theory they should be able to tell it's location the last time it was tracked as their website says that you get a text of it's location when the batteries run out, meaning that they know it's location before it disappears off the system?

Isn't that the same as having a mobile phone hidden within the car....the problem with that being that tracking via GPRS isn't very accurate - you get a search area of about a qtr of a mile wide in the largest cities (where phone masts are more densely populated) rising to several miles out of town.

It thought that, but when you think of GPS sat nav's which everyone has these days, they can pinpoint your location to house level. Mine's just a portable one and it even knows which direction i'm facing when I park in my driveway. If the tracker system works on the same basis then it would be easy to locate.
