    Unhappy GSi just went BANG!!!!!!!!

The wife called me today to ask what was wrong with my car (only called it my car because its broke now). She drove it 2 miles from work to my mothers and I went to meet her. Its bad news as it looks like the big end bearings have went pop and now it sounds like a bag of spanners and I mean that. Its sounds awful so will have to get the sump off and have a look but looks like engine out and a bottom end rebuild.

Would like to know if anyone else has done this and a rough idea how much it would be to refurb crank and new shells.

Also had to get the wife something to get her to work so managed to get her a 2001 1.8 Astra coupe for £1100 although shes moaning because its guttless and has no toys.

Might be as cheap to replace the engine rather then rebuild?

Could end up with another engine with problems and I guess theres not too many second hand engines lying around.

Tops £800 would buy you a nice low mile 3.2 engine, imo

Hi again. I am going to have to look for a new engine for my car and want to know if any other 3.2 v6s will fit my Vectra. I have seen a few and the air intakes look different. Any ideas or leads on a new lump would be helpful guys.

I would have thought any VX 3.2v6 - Frontera, omega's etc - would fit as you have yours to swap all the bits over from ????

I would have thought a 3.2 from an Omega would be a little more work as it's installed longitudinally and has quite a different plenum arrangement.
