    Default Rememberance day...

We stood today for our two minute silence to remember the fallen of wars past. On my chest was a fake red poppy and I stood in Afghanistan in Helman province. Ironic I thought, that I stand here remembering those that fight and died in wars past, while I am at war and just yeasterday stood on parade to pay respect to someone who had recently died here. More so the fact that the poppy on my shirt is exactly what the enemy use to fund their campain against us. Yet I stood there and remembered and payed thanks but wondered if those that had fallen would be saddened by todays events?

Ironic isn't it. That connection had never really crossed my mind until you mentioning it.

Good to hear from you BTW - what is your role over there?

I'm a staff member at the local Air Cadets, and they parade every year for Rememberance, just like I did when I was a cadet. And we make sure they know why they're doing it, and I don't remember a single year when they haven't looked the part and been proud of who they are and what they represent.

Would they be saddened? Good question...

IMO anyone who serves in the forces now (ie not counting the conscripts) does so with a desire to serve their country, and lay down their life if necessary. I know a lot of serving and retired soldiers, marines and crabs, and I know for a fact that while they may not agree with the politics behind the war, not a single one of them signed up to avoid conflict.

They fight so we don't have to.

So no, I don't think they'd be sad. They may not agree, but I honestly believe they'd be right behind you, watching your back as you do your job.

    Hat off to you, m8.

I'm proud of the job I do but I'll be putting in my notice in a few years. I want a family now I'm getting older and you can't have a family or relationship over the phone.

I think I might be infectious, I'm having to do an engine change on the Lynx today. I don't remember putting methanol or NOS in it...
