Default Cheap insurer for younger drivers?

Can any of our younger members recommend an insurance company which is kind to younger drivers?

My son is 19 and has just bought his first car - a 1999 Astra - insurance quotes vary wildly although all are comfortably over £2000 a year . This is what he was expecting but still hoping to get it down a little bit.

Combining this with the extra cost of paying monthly makes it even worse so I'd be interested to hear if anyone has got a good deal off a particular company.

I have found that having me as a named driver on his policy makes it less extortionate but still not what I'd call cheap

very expensive in your first year but you need no claims behind you

Why dont you get insured with Direct Line, and have your son as a named driver. He will then accrue his own no claims, and can put the policy in his name when he has a couple of years driving under his belt.

i think that all you have to do is get as many quotes as you can , thats what i did ,because one company will be cheaper for one person and expensive for another

I'm with Endsleigh. I started out with a Pug 205 with Privelage and that was £1200. I bought a Vec B after my first year and it came down to £800 with Endsleigh. 2 years later i bought my SRI 150 and it went up again to just under £1000. But that's probably because this is the first car i've insured fully comp.

    Hope this helps

My daughter found Direct Line the cheapest when she first needed insurance on her 1.2 16v Corsa was about the £600 mark and she's just changed to a 1.4 Clio and it only went up £75....
