    Question y30dt engine

    Had the car for a week so not sure if thises are problems or not. its a 54 plate 3.0 CDTI, done 44K
    problem 1
    when i switch the enguine off i can hear a fan run down
    problem 2
    when cruising at 55 mph in 6th gear the engine seems to misfire / run rough until the revs reach 1750
    problem 3
    the engine seems low on power in 1st and 2nd gear when you reach 3rd gear the turbo give a healthy push. Is this an engine management function to stop the turbo from over boosting.

    Hi mate i think the fan is just to cool the engine down and the turbo.

    not to sure what the others are

    Hi Phil,

    Problem 1: Mine doesnt, perhaps you need to run the car with the bonnet up and see what happens (bet it doesnt occur then!) Not sure if its wise popping the bonnet if you already hear the fan running. Watch those fingers! The fan shouldn't come on unless you are stuck in traffic. Ive never heard mine on in the two years Ive had the car, but then it might not work!?! What does the temperature gauge say?

    Problem 2: When I bought mine the last guy said he had to get a software update to the ECU as it hesitated at certain points of the rev range, mines a 54 plate siggy, so same vintage. He also said he had a duff injector, which was quite hard to diagnose, it just ran a little rougher, but the V6 is so smooth it was difficult to pick up.

    Problem 3: I dont think there is any limiter in 1st/2nd but they are quite short gears.

    cheers marly,
    1)engine temp is between 80 and 90
    2) will call in local Vx dealer and ask about software update,
    3) yes i know what you mean could probably start off in 2nd

    yes the v6 is great, foot down at 60 and watch the speed rise and the fuel gauge fall still i bought it for comfort not fuel economy, but its better than my petrol V6.

    1st and 2nd will have a torque limiter. The 1.9 does, so I can't see why the 3.0 doesn't.

    The winding down fan noise is normal, it's the vacuum pump.

    that would be the vacuum pump for the brakes then, its been a long time driving a 2.5 v6 petrol then changing to a v6 desiel, mind that i can hear it in the car with the doors closed, but normal i can accept

    Vacuum pump on diesel works just about everything - EGR, brakes, swirl valves, various solenoids...
