    Default 1.8 drinking issue...

Is it normal for the Z18XE to drink oil?? mine seems to enjoy it quite a lot lately although there is no oil leaks, I did notice a few months ago when I changed the plugs that there was oil in one of the chambers but the other 3 were dry, any ideas??

Yea its a really odd thing, normally needs between half a litre and a litre every couple of months so wasn't sure if thats normal or not.

I would have thought that was normal. It should say in the manual oil consumption per 1000 miles/Km somewhere

Looking at the handbook it may well be normal as it says frequent mileage and high engine running speeds increase oil consumption.

I had a 1.8 'Active' ('53' plate) from new like yours (but unmodded) and it didn't drink a drop of oil in 2 years and 11,000 miles. There again, the oil (factory-supplied so probably VX 0W-30) was never changed or topped up in that time. No need for it and 2-year servicing interval.

if it's got oil in a plug cavity it needs the camcover gasket changing.. dead simple...also, if the oil is at an 'extended' mileage it will thin and the engine will burn it quite quickly..I've solved quite a few members 1.8's oil consumption issues with nothing more than a simple oil change......
