Import duties

Does anyone have a link to a website of information about the charges for import duties. We are hoping for a "parcel" of fishing spinners, they are a gift to us, and we were wondering if we will have to pay import duty, any idea??

It's buried deep on the HMRC site Ed. I'll have a peek for a direct link but they don't make it easy to find.

For starters

There is a list somewhere that gives the % of duty depending on the type of item - that's the one that's buried somewhere.

I think they now charge as too many people where using this to avoid paying duty

I beleive that up to a certain value is both VAT (£18 I think) and duty exempt but over that is in theory liable.

I think I am also correct in saying it depends where it is from - i.e. whether sent from within the EU or not.

I think it depends if you are going to smoke all the spinners yourself or sell them on the black market Ed
