confused Still got that horrible rattle... any more ideas...?

Well, the horrible rattling coming from the Signum is getting worse now and I finally decided to take it to VX finally to get it sorted...

Well, dropped it off at 8.30 this morning, picked it up at 12.30...

"We cant find anything wrong with it and no rattle... that's £38 please..."

Annoyed, I asked to take a mechanic on a drive with me so he could hear the noise...

"They're all out to lunch, back at 1.30ish, come back then and they'll have another look"

SO I take it back, was left standing around like a prize pr1ck for 30mins whilst they played games to see who was making the tea...

FINALLY someone came out, took him for a drive, the guy jumps in. So off we go down some back round industrial estate. So I show him how the noise/rattle comes on...

ALWAYS happens at 1500 revs or so, in 2nd or 3rd, until around 3000 revs, when pulling away, even down hill. She sounds like the cars going to fall apart! Ok, so at least now they have heard the noise that they claimed not to hear before. So they take it back onto the ramp...

    2 Hours later...

"Sorry sir, we still cant find anything wrong..."

Seriously, WTF is happening to my car! They claim its not the fanbelt, timing belt, exhaust, camchain, heatshield... I took a print out of my last thread reference this problem, and they counted all of them out.

So just a bit about the noise if anyone else has any ideas -

Loud Rattle (Metalic) at slow speeds, 15mph - 20mph in 2nd, 20-25mph in 3rd. All other gears, 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th fine. Only happens when moving (obviously LOL) no noise or rattle from aggressive or gentle revving of the engine when idle.

    Thanks for reading...

it sounds like an internal gearbox problem that is linked by 2nd and 3rd gear, the only way to confirm is to get the box stripped

Could it be a clutch release bearing as they make a rattle noise

i had same problems with my vectra, sorry to say but not long after that, i had no gears! best thing to do is change the box before it takes your clutch with it! i made the mistake of running it and the clutch on the new vectra's is a funny one, cost me £250! im guessing the signum is the same. not too sure tho mate

Check under that a spanner hasn't been left anywhere, also clear the glovebox and boot out and see if it's still there, tighten the spare wheel and remove the tool kit, look under the panel that houses the pollen filter, without hearing it I can't say for sure, but these are some of the stupid things that get overlooked.

Well, tried taking everything out of the car, looked for bits that shouldnt be there, still no joy. VX never even mentioned it could be something to do with the gearbox... In fact they didnt mention it could be this it could be that at all!

Its going in on the 19th now to be looked at in more detail. On another note, I'm SURE the noise only happens when the engines warmed up... Oh well... Back to the drawing board. Its just so annoying the lack of service I'm getting from VX.

Check the tailgate catch is holding the 'gate firmly. May just need adjusting.

Is there any noise on idle? and also does it do it/stop it depending on if you have the clutch pushed in, if it rattles on idle but not when the clutch is depressed it can be a thrust bearing at best and a shaft bearing in the box at worst.
