Thermostat on 3.2

Hi all,

Has anyone done a thermostat on a 3.2?
Done mine the other day due to the temp not going up at all..

Took me ages because of the location of that stat and the plastic right angle tube broke because of being old and brittle.

Anyone else had problems with it?

it is a big dig down isn't it..

...they didn't give that much thought...it's actually easier with the cam belt and tensioner block off....

Would it be easier/faster to do at the same time with the cam belt change? I've been thinking to change the thermostat because my temp gauge goes only up to 82°-85°C on motorway..

If you have the right tools and and are lucky enough that things dont fall apart while doing it, taking the injection unit etc off would be the way to go i think.
You have to take a manifold plate off that covers the bolts so the top has to come off anyway.

Just did mine at the weekend on my 3.2,
That has to be the worst designed part on the car, what where VX thinking when they decided to bury it almost in the center of the engine!

I had to take mine apart twice, VX sold me the wrong one to begin with.. Engine wasn’t heating up at all with the original one they sold me.
But yes I agree on a car a thermostat is considered pretty much a consumable item so why place it somewhere so ridiculous? Not only that how much hassle is it to get that radiator pipe off!!!

Can anyone tell me where exactly the thermostat is located? Also the coolant temp sensor if possible please.

I've found another post with details of the thermostat location, but can't find one regarding the temp sender, so I have opened a seperate thread

How long are these cars supposed to take to warm up? Ours takes too long in my opinion, on a cold morning here (around 10-15 C) the needle won't budge for around 15 mins, sound normal?
