Default Power steering fluid - which one?

I keep getting the power steering warning light on the dash, and think i may have a leek with the power steering fluid, so i'm going to take a look tomorrow.

If I need to top up the fluid, apparantly it: CHF - Central Hydraulic Fluid that needs to go in.

    would this be ok?

    It's CHF 11S....

    ??

I've got my MOT on Monday, and want to disguise any leak so I can fix it later rather than fail the MOT.

    Thanks
    Dan

Instead of using the bottle shown above, would this one be ok? It says it stops leaks, and due to me needing some, I'm guessing it's got out somehow...
(I haven't got round to doing it yet, due to dark nights and cold days.)

IMO, no. Stick to what's tried and tested/recommended. So CHF or VX / Saab stuff.

    Just to clarify....
So this is a completely different type of Power Steering Fluid, and not like an additional fluid to help stop leaks etc?
(like engine additive which you add to engine oil - and fuel injection cleaner which you add to fuel tank..)?

    .

Correct (I believe). For the sake of an extra £7ish on top of the Slick 50 price, I'd play safe and get the proper stuff from VX or go mail order. Don't know what damge (if any) long term, an incorrect fluid would do to any seals and pipes in the power steering set up.

Had a warning today on the dash display to say that the 'Steering Fluid Level' was low. No problem, I popped into Halfords and took a look. There were a few types so I thought I'd consult the chart books they have on the shelves. I looked up my car (52 plate Vectra Diesel Turbo 2.0) and the chart suggests that I use either Castrol or Halfords Differential oil 80/90. I took one of these containers to the counter as I thought it a little strange, the guy initially said it was the wrong stuff, but after checking the same chart as I did, he said yes, thats the stuff you need.

Is that right? Differential oil in the power steering system? Sounds a little dodgy to me.

Searched the Net about this, but can't find anything. Can someone please advise.
