    Default Top Gear Australia...

Just been sent recordings off this by a mate out there, as it's recently started being aired. Got the first 6 episodes, and jsut finished watching the first one...

Opinion: They've tried to make it exactly like the British one, in every respect. Same features, same studio, same silly challenges, same sort of presenters...

Most of it, especially the presenters, just doesn't seem to work very well at all. You almost get the feeling they're acting and reading from a script, whereas with the British one you get the feeling a lot of it is real, even the bits that ARE scripted.

They have a stig, and an airfield (it has Cessnas taxiing in the backround to prove it...) but they don't really show you what the circuit looks like, and it seems very boring indeed. Same goes for the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car - some random bloke I've never eard of (which is understandable as I'm not Australian...) driving a Proton not very excitingly. The shark watching in a Mini Moke was different though...

All powers are expressed in Kilowatts, which is fair enough as it's what they use over there, even though it means naff-all to me...

Only the first episode though, and the first series of the current Top Gear was rubbish with that fat bloke telling you how much a car is worth, so it may imporve over time...

Next show has the VXR8 in it...

No, not the same but better than 5th gear. Would be happy for the beeb to put it on while the real Top Gear was off air though.

Top Gear is Clarkson, it's the only reason it works, a big buffoon who sticks his finger up to anything sensible and is banned from the wine isles in supermarkets imcase he knocks it all over.

Alot of us Aussies have had mixed feelings about Top Gear Australia so far, however it is starting to turn the corner. This latest episode had them in high end 4WD's in the outback. They are starting to gel together which is great & was always going to happen with time. For those thinking TPA was going to be brilliant from the get go are simply not thinking fairly. Same thing happened with UK Top Gear, it took a little while for the whole crew to gel. Once they did, well we know the answer to that the show hit the stratosphere & kept going. Sure Clarkson shone from the start but everyone else took a little longer to gel.

As for the track, the low camera angles at which the track is shown on TV is said to change for next season with the camera's being set a little higher so you get a better appreciation of the demographics of it. You should be able to see the layout better.

Yes TPA runs on all the same formula's as TPUK, it has too. Ofcourse there will be a few little differences but overall the BBC requires/d TPA to run to the same formula, so there isn't much scope for differenciation. This included the hosts.

    Onward & upward for TPA.....

Top Gear UK is hosted by 3 "professional" journalists. Top Gear Oz is hosted by a clapped out racing driver, a not so clapped out racing driver, and a cartoonist. There's the difference right there.

It's ole Charlie Cox as the main presenter. He used to do the commentry alongside Murray Walker then John Watson on the BTCC a few years ago.

His favourite saying when someone had gone off the track, and my dad only mentioned it the other day was, 'He's gone agricultural'!

John Watson's favourite was 'He's gone off quicker than a bag of prawns in the sun'!

    Quality!

Snowman, you got your ears on?
