Default Spanner light and slight loss of power 2.2dti

    Hi all,
I have a 2.2dti and the spanner light has just come on the dash board. It did say 1000 under but this has now disapeared. It is only on when you turn the ignition on and turns off once started.

I assumed this meant i needed a service but I only had one 3 months ago - about 6000miles. Maybe i need an oil change?

The other thing i have noticed is that in the mornings it takes a little longer for the engine to kick in, plus i seem a bit slower pulling away now.
    Im thinking maybe spark plugs?

If this is all the case il take a trip back to the garage as the oil and plugs should have been changed at the service.

Any help would be great, cheers

first off, there are no sparkplugs on the DTi's.. just glow plugs and as it starts okay then i'd rule them out.. ( they're not service items BTW)...

without plugging it in to a code reader to know for sure whats wrong with it, popular 'faults' on the DTi are gunged up boost sensor, sooted up EGR valve...

for my money it sounds like you have an issue with their of those..

    Thanks a lot.

Sorry I did know that - re: spark/glow plugs - just having a funny five minutes :-)

Do you no how I would go about cleaning out both the boost sensor and EGR valve or is it really a "garage job" ?

    thanks again

egr valve located front of engine and simple to do
there is a how to thread in the how to section mate

boost sensor i believe is to the right of engine with a few pipes running off it and one pipe runs direct to back of turbo area

wd40 seems to be peoples favoruite for boost sensor mate

    hope this helps

boost sensor is actually the very first sensor on the air intake to the engine from the intercooler.. it's secured by one torx screw and has one electrical plug running to it..clean it with brake cleaner or the like..it should be brassy in colour but i bet your's is black..

this forum is ****** useful! thanks guys.

I've got the same issue on my 2.0DTi so will try these two things and report back. It's my commuter so i need it back to health this weekend (doing my 150 mile round trip commute in my S2000 today)..

are the ODBII readers on ebay useful?

early ( pre 2004) diesels are hit and mis.. mainly miss on anything below about £100.... they make big claims but often have only a shallow scanning ability..
