    Default Car servicing costs

    Just rang up my local vx dealer and asked how much a 60k service would be for my 1.9 cdti veccy and was quoted £185 is that correct?

    Also made a enquiry about when the cambelt should be changed and was told 100k, im sure i read somewhere that this figure was reduced to 60k.

    Any ideas???

    I've just been quoted the same from Evans Halshaw in St Albans for my 1.9 CDTI bus's 2nd service at 27k.

    price 4 service is about rite for a dealer
    as for the cam belt book says 60k but vx recomends 40k plus get water pump done at the same time.

    i was quoted £256 for my 80k service. When was the cambelt figure dropped? mine is a 55plate and still quotes 100k in my service manual - mines at 80k and hasnt been done, was planning to do at 90k

    The cambelt issue continues to frustrate.

    AFAIK, the CDTi has a quoted change mileage at 100K though a local dealer said 80K was more suitable. On here, most people suggest 60K.

    What I would love to know is whether Vxl would foot the bill if a Veccy with full Vxl service history snapped it's cambelt before 100K. After all, that is what it should be capable of.

    Incidentally, took mine to a Vauxhall dealer to get the cambelt changed on Friday. Got a call an hour after dropping it off to tell me that they had ordered the wrong specification belt so couldn't do the work . How inept can you get?

    How much have VX quoted for them to swap the cambelt if you don't mind me asking?

    What is frustrating is the lack of a definite ruling. Experts on here know more than the dealers do, or are prepared to divulge. Even when asking about cambelt intervals they keep you waiting and then tell you what is in the Service Manual or simply thatn pearl of wisdom 'I dunno'. It would help if service manuals were updated with changes that have been recommended by VX, cause sure as eggs is eggs they will try and wriggle out of engine repairs following cambelt failure within the published time interval.

    The dealership I went to quoted £300 for the kit and fitting. I think this is rather pricey. I am going to look for a reputable independent to do the work for me. I despair at the generally hopeless Vxl dealers.
