    Default Dismantling front suspension

    Hi guys.
I've been trying to change my suspension all day.

I've managed to get the full front strut/spring off, but Now I can't dismantle it...

I need the top piece, and the rubber trim to put on my new strut and spring.

At the very top of the strut there is a Nut with a torx bit in the middle. I have tried unscrewing the torx and the nut, but the top of the strut just spins round with it, and doesn't unscrew..

Here is the NUT with the TORX bit in the middle.

I have tried putting the top piece in a vice and trying to unscrew it that way.

But the top metal rod of the strut (shown exposed in this picture) keeps turning when I turn the nut, so it doesn't unscrew.

Can anyone tell me how to get it of??

    Thanks
    Dan

Dan when Drinky did mine he had a ring spanner on the top nut and then used a torx bit to hold the centre piece still whilst undoing the nut.

When I done mine it was just a case of an angled spanner on the nut and a torx bit in the bolt then turn the opposite way to unscrew.

You will have fun here if you don,t have the correct ring spanner. I use a 7/16 or 1/2 whit ( I forget which size fits the nut) whit ring spanner it has a deep "ring" on it so it sits down on the locknut, then with a torx socket I undo the nut. Make sure the spring is clamped firmly as the lot will go up in the air when you remove the nut.

    Thanks for the advise guys.

Does anyone know what ring spanner I need then?

I'm going to have to hunt round and get one tommorrow because the car is parked on the drive with 3 wheels on

Also, which do I turn clockwise? the nut or the torx?

I'm taking pictures of the process so I can upload the How2 when I finally get finished. That way others have a step by step guide...

You hold the centre shaft static with the torx bit then turn the nut anticlockwise

Turn the spanner anti-clockwise and the torx bit clockwise IIRC, you'll know when you start turning it or just look at the thread of the bolt to see which way.

that's what I've always done and I've removed quite a few over the years and makes the job much easier.
