    Default Diagnostic Systems

It's probably already been asked but despite searching I can't find the answer but are there any suggestions as to what would be a decent diy diagnostic system for reasonable money?

    Thanks

I believe the 'useful' ones start at about £500. Vauxhall's own are about £2000. It all depends what you want to do.

If you just want to read/clear codes then yes, you can pick them up for about £50-£100 on ebay etc. These will at least give you a starting point as to what the problem is. They are also useful when going to view a car - a quick diagnostics check can show if the car has any stored fault codes.

Argos sell the RAC diagnostic scanner for £50 and £120.

I've just bought the £120 today from Argos. I dont have any lights on my dash, hence cant comment on it at the moment. Reviews on the web say favourable things about it though.

The generic ones are OBDII compliant (most cars after 2001 i think) - ie not just Vauxhall specific. I actually bought mine because my uncle has a VW Golf - the ECL light comes on too often - and he always asks me whats wrong with his car! Hopefully, now i'll be able to tell him.

I can recommend the memoscan U581.
    I bought mine from here:-http://www.talktomycar.co.uk/index.htm

Have used it on vec c diesel and Suzuki grand vitara petrol with no issues.
This model describes the fault code as well as displaying it.
