Cool Falken Tyres 225/45zr17 94w Xl

The GoodYEar NCT Eagles are off at 25904 miles. I made the switch today from the GoodYear 215/50/17 to a FALKEN ZE912 - 225/45/17.
After much searching and asking for advice (and getting loads of great advice) - I went for the FALKEN brand - ZE912. (The much praised FX452 are being phased out - still available but I thought that if I do like these I will try the ones that will be available for the foreseeable ).

I have reset my BC1 counter to see just how much wear I get out of these FALKENS.

A set of 4 has just cost me £260.33 fully fitted incl VAT. (Micheldever Tyres - near Andover / Winchester - great service, great value - really good wheel balance machine!!!)

I asked for 33 pressure all round (same as the NCTs - Manual states 32 but I have always run them on 33).
    So like for like comparision?
After the first 65 miles they are much better but as for wear and tear - far to early to tell. They do have a far better 'rim protector' than the NCTs.

I switched of the radio on the way there and did a compare on the way back - same road.
Drive feel: Smooth - and not so much 'tramlining'
    Road noise: A little quieter.
Handling: Better - much better and the 'silica' has not buffed off yet !!
I estimate they will just get better - but be able to be pushed from about 250miles onwards.
    So far really happy.
I will post regular updates here to let all know how the tyres get on.

I suspect they won't last as long as the NCT5's but the reason for that is that the NCT5's rubber is too hard - hence one of the reasons why they don't handle very well.

Earlier this year I swapped NCT5's for Goodyear GSD3's (well the front's anyway). The NCT5's had covered 26,000 miles before I replaced them (I think the previous owner mainly did motorway work which probably helped). The GSD3's are already worn down to approx 5mm left in 8,000 miles of my driving - I am mainly doing A & B road driving. At this rate I'll be surprised if I get a total of 16,000 miles out of them. Meanwhile the original NCT5's on the rear still have 3 to 4mm of tread left on them after 34,000 miles.

Just made a post in car chat about these. After some research I had 4 Falken 912s fitted yesterday, £240 all in. http://www.greatnorthtyres.co.uk It's in Gateshead just over the Tyne bridge run by Harry. Top bloke!! Early impressions....very good. Quiet, grippy and they look great on the car!!! I replaced the Vredestein Ultracs 225/45/17s I put on last year because I was never happy with how they looked mounted on the wheels. Even if they wear quickly at £60 each fitted they're not exactly costly. A mate of mine just had a Goodyear Eagle replaced at the dealers and cost him £130 for one.....!!!!!

well i've just had a set of four put on the vectra 2.2direct 04 and with me just having my steering tie rods, track rod ends and my rear upper control arms replaced i have in the last week had a four wheel allignment done so car should be all straight and spot on. only driven with them for about 8 miles so can't really report on them as such but they seem just as quite as the two nct5's and the two nexen n3000's that were on the car.the bloke that fitted them for me said that they ressemble the new goodyear excellence which are supposed to be a good tyre so can't wait for the mould release agent to scrub off then the real reviews can start.

    Default UPDATE on FALKENS

Done the first 260 miles in the Falkens ZE912. Set at 33 all around.
Road noise is quieter compared to the NCT - I know this as I can now hear my engine above the rumble of the road for the first time since I had the car - I thought I had an engine problem to start with.
Mainly wet Wiltshire country lanes - fit for tractors (some really are one lane only) - grip better than the NCT - (I realise that they may not be scubbed off yet). 80 of these miles on duel carrage way - very quiet and smooth.
Handling: Better than the NCT - no rear end slide on sharp bends.
Could be a hint of oversteer - but I suspect that is down to lots of tread and more tyre on the road? compared to the state of my NCT & and my driving.
Very little tramline effect - much less than the NCT.
Cosmetics - look ok good rim protection, tread not 'tearing' (as per some really cheap tyres).
Fitted last Fri 31, Tyre pressure checked on Sunday - still at 33, and again first thing this morning - still 33 - so no rapid sidewall leak - yet.
Early days yet - but they have got me to work for the last 3 days and no problems.
    Next update at 500miles

    Thumbs up Falken Ze912

Hello there - 520 miles complete:
Really dodgy roads - loads of rain, leaves, grease - Wiltshire 'fit for only tractors' roads.
Tyres: Still at 33 - no pressure loss.
Careful check inside and outside - no bulges.
Careful check of the tread - not strange flat spots etc (moved the car back and forth to check the full tyre surface)
Still as quiet as first impression, really pleased.

Grip in this terrible weather - good - if not better than the NCT that came off - no side slide. Stop really quick - and some of the roads here have been flooded with mud slides from the field banks draging onto the road surface - really bad in some places - but these tyres held the surface.
Agreed I have not been pushing it hard - but then you would have to be mad to do over 70 on these tracks (so I do 50-60).
I have some duel carriage way driving next week so speed handling will be topic next time.

Next update 1000 miles - or sooner if I have a serious problem.
(I will try to get the camera on them for the 1000 mile update)

it's a real shame that they are phasing out the FK452's, i've heard nothing but good things from them and they were really well priced - albeit they are the tightest tyres i have ever had the displeasure of fitting, absolutely no give in them whatsoever - not sure if the same can be said for the ZE912's.
