Default Steering warning light - help

    Hi guys,
Over the past month, I've been getting the steering warning light come on a few times a day. I don't know if it's because I'm aware of a possible problem, but the steering does feel quite light, and a take it very carefully when turning corners, because it feels like I'm going to turn the steering wheel and the car will carry on forward.

I don't know if my suspension is affecting the steering because that's knackered, and i've changed the back, but the front is due the weekend (struggling to do it after work in the dark)

The warning light comes on the dash 8 out of 10 times that i go round a roundabout (i don't drive silly, normal 20mph or so round a smallish roundabout. The light also comes on if I go round a normal corner and there are bumps in the road. Like with the rear suspension when it feels like the rear end will swing out, this feels like the front end will swing out.

I'm changing the front suspension this weekend, so hopefully that will cure it, but does anyone have any thoughts to what might be causing it, and i PRAY it's not expensive.

    Thanks
    Dan

Could be the sensors on the steering rack, but thats just a guess.

I'm worried that it's not just a sensor issue, but something is not right, because the steering feels light and not responsive enough.

Could it be the power steering fluid low? How would I check this?
    Also could be the pump..?

    just my thoughts.

The power fluid is located near the bumper somewhere I believe, don't think its too easy to get too. have you thought about getting the faut codes read?

    Thumbs up

I have got the same problem but my light is now on all the time and so is the traction control. I have already asked the question today on the forum but it appears nobody else has had the problem or just not saying!

I have had the codes read and it points to the snsor/s which I am told will cost £600 or so. If it is that then fine but I would rather know 100%.

If someone can help two of us now it would be appreciated

    Thanks

Yeh cheers for the pics and advise!

What do you top it up with? and is there a mark with max and min levels?

I'll have a look at mine this weekend too. Hopefully that'll be the cause and solution. Got to finish from suspension anyway, so I'll just make a day of it.
