    Default Airbox mod. Rev limiter?

I've remover the airbox restrictor today. An easy job once the entire assembly is removed from the car. The 'half pipe' piece clips out with a bit of persuasion and the whole lot was back in the car in under 30 minutes.
I can't hear any difference to the volume or quality of the sound but - and I'm sure it's not my imagination - it revs quicker and feels a lot more lively and free reving, although ultimately no quicker - The throttle response is definitely quicker.
Mine's the five speed auto and in full auto mode it changes up (full welly) at 6000rpm. Now, I expected in manual mode that the electronics would overrule the manual settings if it was about to over-rev, but no....holding second or third it'll go right up to 7000rpm and still won't change automatically. I checked the hand book and this is how it's supposed to be....strange!

I'm used to driving cars with rev limiters that cut in abruptly at just over the red line, but no such thing happens on my 2.2 direct - it just revs and revs until my nerve / mechanical sympathy forces a touch on the tiptronic lever.
I hit 7200rpm once this afternoon which is far too high really.
Is there supposed to be an electronic rev-limiter on this engine?
What revs limit is it set at?
Is mine faulty / wrongly set / or can the engine rev ever higher? (have I not hit it yet?)
The red sector start at 6500rpm on the rev counter.
Full revs were only used in the interests of scientific experimentation of course!!!

    7200 rpm seems a bit high !!
Max permissible engine speed, continous operation with the 2.2: 6500rpm
A little strange that the rev limiter didnt kick in a those revs
Dont think i would come close to 7200 with my 2.0T
( And it wouldnt make any good either ... max hp at 5500 )

Steady on Doug the F1 season doesn't start until next week. If Mr Raikonen doesn't do well can I give Ron Dennis your number ?

Yes, I got a little carried away today Scottex. It must be something to do with my new 'Vectra-C.com' sticker.......'Max Power' next?......maybe not!
I think I'll leave it in full auto from now on!!!

It would be interesting ( purely in the interests of research, of course) to see what the petrol engines can rev to in the real world, now Dougs got the ball rolling.

Wouldn't mind seeing and hearing a 3.2V6 at full chat.

i have the same setup as you ie: 2.2DTi with 5 speed auto with tiptronic, and it acts in exactly the same way as you describe,

the ' auto ' bit kicks in when decelerating tho, as in it will disengage the gears to prevent stalling,

Having had mine flat out, on the rolling road, on saturday. I can tell you that the sound is both frightning and awesome at the same time..To get a power pull to the red line he drove it , tiptronicaly, to 146mph on the rollers..The fastest speed acheived on the day.. Rev limiter cut in?? No, he bottled...
