    Default GSi de-cat

Following on from GSi3.2's cat removal http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=59699, I've enquired with MIJ at Walsall to do the same and just got a reply back:

"The de-catpipe in stainless steel you've requested for your Vauxhall Vectra-C will cost £44.99 this is fully inclusive of fuel discount (£25), vat & fitting. "

Might just take a trip to Walsall

No you don't need a cat for an mot, just the emmissions need to be below a set point. GSI3.2 didn't remove all the cats anyway, just the last one in the main exhaust, not the precats

I think you're right - but they have to know that it's missing first

Plus you aint removing all the cats so you still have one. The cheap way around decatting is to remove the cat, bas the innards out with a screw driver and hammer, clean it out, and refit, then it looks like you still have one, and its free! (well, maybe an hours work)

There's a forum, would you believe, for MOT testers . A couple of threads on there from MOT testers that say you don't have to have the cat in place, it's the emmissions that count (as Mark said).

Yep, I have just been looking at those too! As long as it meets emmissions requirements for that year of car then there is no problem

Immoral IMO to remove emissions reducing devices, and it will do something or it wouldn't be there at all.
Rodding out the cat might actually decrease power, as it may increase back pressure due to the fluid dynamics of the exhaust gas flowing through an empty canister, with shape changes that were not are modelled / tested originally.
Also be aware that Section 59 of the Construction and use act MAY be violated.

You cannot modify the exhaust system of the car such that it produces more noise than when originally registered.

Not many police forces carry the kit required to perform tests at the roadside though, so the likelihood of being 'done' are small.
