    Default An Astra question

Seen an Astra 1.3 diesel on a 55 plate that I'm thinking about for 'er indoors. Anybody got any experience of the engine. It's 90bhp which is plenty for her, but it'll be used for local driving and I'm worried the diesel engine won't like the short trips.

My sister-in-law has the 1.3 diesel in her corsa and she only does local trip to work, they say the fuel economy is good even compared to their 1.2 petrol punto. After all they do class it as a city diesel.

    I took a 1.3 CDTI Astra on a 06-reg for a test drive about 4 weeks ago.

Was really cautious about the tiny engine, but was impressed, plenty of go and I left the trip on Instant and the MPG was huge.

On that particluar one I couldnt work out a deal, but im deffo going to consider one for the future.

Hopefully there will be SRI's, etc, in that engine too!

Only pauper spec have the two-pint. Life and Club I think.

It's a good little engine, doesn't tend to suffer the clogging issues it's bigger brother has, and is better than the 1.7 in just about every way. Better gearbox too, the 6-speed M20 is a lighter M32. The 1.7 still uses the fusty old F17+.

My uncle has the 1.3CDTi in a Meriva and the engine blew after 22000miles and he drives like a Vicar...

He pays the same road tax (£120 big ones) as I do in my 1.9CDTi Astra too.... Weird!

I have a 1.3CDTI astra estate as a company car..(compulsary). Had it since new (2007) and got to say its fine....Only snag is when they are cold, they suffer from huge turbo lag. Once warmed up they are pretty quick....they cruise on the motorway at 70 at only 2100rpm (in 6th) and are nearly silent.
34000miles so far and no problems to report....so thumbs up from me

i seen them blow in merivas at 2000 miles but that was all because of the dpf on them high milage ones were fine it was the low milage stop start ones that was a pain, they did sort it out now

its fine in the astra very good was surprised when i first drove one and have seen them do 120k+ miles without fault

    very economical

Gearbox aside, the latest 1.7CDTI in SRI and Design trim is a little corker. 120bhp and 0-60 in under 10 seconds.

A friend of mine has just got a 1.3CDTI Club Corsa, and has nothing but praise for it, light years ahead of the 1.3 Ford Ka he previously had.

And an auxiliary socket for MP3's etc is standard across the entire range. Wish I had one in my SRI without having to have a Sat Nav I would never need.

I have driven lots of these at work (they have blue lights on the top) and they are fine. It won't set your world on fire but I would happily buy one for my other half. I have driven them very hard on many occasions and they really go well for such a small lump, the only thing I would say is the turbo lag at low speeds is really rather bad but if you're just plodding around town it's fine.

    Bit of a thread resurrection.

Got my eye on a 1.4 Life petrol Astra. 55 reg. 26000m, £4200.

As mentioned, it'll be used as a second car. I'm wondering if the engine will be that little bit gutless for a car of that size, even if it is just used for pottering about. (And informed comments on price would be welcome)
