Default Removal of the EGR valve via Tech2 or remap???

Right been having a read through Total Vauxhall (page 20) and noticed that Regal say that by removing the EGR Valve (in the remap) it will keep the intake clean.

So no future problems with the EGR valve then? As we know these cause problems.
I assume that this can also be done to standard cars via Tech 2 and maybe it will save some money for someone whos has gone faulty.

I have the BSR remap so I am going to ask them if they can do it/recommend it unless someone knows different???

Cant really add mate, but the EGR is easily disabled on the 2.2 petrol via Tech 2 or a home brew bit of wiring. There has been mention of the EGR disabled on the 1.9 oil burner. All I can remember is a dealer disabled one guys because they couldn't get hem a new one for some time.

I recently blocked off the EGR intake on my V6 diesel Vectra, but this brought up an 'insufficient EGR flow' spanner light. But with a little experimentation I have now had no problems for months by reducing the intake hole size to about the size of a five pence piece where before it was larger than a fifty pence piece! There are others that have done this mod and so far have reported no ill effects.

The benefits are better pick up (mixture is not contaminated by exhaust gases when you initially floor it),better warm up (higher combustion temps),better mpg (slightly),less soot (higher combustion temps = less soot particles),and less contaminants (soot particles) finding their way into the oil and therefore prolonging oil/engine life.

The only downside is a slight increase in NOx which isn't tested for at an MOT anyway, whereas soot is.

It's a pain on the DTi, peadar. You can't just block the EGR due to the shape of it's opening on the inlet manafold. Believe me I tried with my 2.0DTi (uses the same design EGR).

The easiest way is to block the channel through the head from the exhaust manafold, but it means pulling the exhaust manafold (or inlet manafold) and making up a custom gasket with the EGR channel blocked.

I have been running mine with two 5.5mm holes in the blanking plate for a while and all OK. The point I am trying to find is the smallest hole without generating the "insufficient EGR flow" warning. Funnily enough, for me the jury is out on the improved MPG as mine appears to have fallen, however, I need to keep an eye on this for longer. The biggest plus for me though is the improved oil longevity, and the benefits this brings to the engine itself, and quicker pickup.

If I could get the EGR Tech2'd out, especially if recommended by a reputable tuning company, then I would.

    Cheers,

Emailed BSR Sweden and had the following reply:

No BSR will not "remove" any function that are involved in emmision control

Seems thats a "no" then! I now wish I had gone to Regal and got their remap which gives high BHP and a few other features not on the BSR remap.

Live and learn, although I am not unghappy with my BSR remap but it would be nice to have got rid of the EGR Valve and the problems that can bring

    So, from reading above posts:

Is it possible to block off the EGR Valve on a 1.9 CDTi with the Regal Remap?

I am running the EDS/Regal remap which has blocked the EGR and all seems well at the moment. I have a choice of 190bhp or 200bhp with no EGR or the same with EGR. The 190bhp setting has the highest torque which is what I like, damm quick acceleration
