Default Number Plate Legislation 1st Nov

Been reading on the old tinternet that the new government legislation reagrding the selling of 'illegal' or 'showplates' kicks in from 1st November. Crikey what's gonna happen to all them sellers on E-Bay for example who must be doing a roaring trade in the sale of these plates? What is a perfectly legal number plate? Are you allowed to display say a GB or perhaps Vauxhall badge on the left hand side of the plate? I own a private plate which i'm in the process of changing over to my recently purchased Signum. Does anyone know what i can or cannot display on it and no i am not naive, of course i have a fair idea but then i go and chat to someone about it and one says you can do this perfectly legally and then someone else says oh no you can't...too much confusion! What the heck does 3D legal mean as someone on E Bay has described their plates? Like i said, sh*t loads of confusion. As for them 'illegal' and 'showplates' being outlawed as of 1st Nov i'm convinced someone out there will, given time find a way round it, they usually do. Comments/thoughts lads?

I thought show plates / modified registrations / etc had been illegal for ages. Hence why the police can pull you over, fine you and tell you to change them within 7 days.

In effect yes you're quite right but as of 1st November (or so i've read) it's actually an offence to sell them! If i've got this wrong then i'm sure someone on here will put the record straight.

Think law requires a standard font & size for the lettering and issuer and postcode on the bottom. The only other allowed 'addition' is an approved registration country flag/identifier (and for the UK it is 'GB', not English, Scottish or Welsh).

I read in the newspaper that we're not allowed the Scottish/Welsh/English flags on our plates because when were driving in other countries people get confused by those flags so only GB or Euro is allowed..
John K is right, it has to be in the certain typeface with the maker on the bottom and either no flag or the GB or Euro. No Vauxhall badges allowed instead of the flag or background etc.

I'm pretty sure "3D legal" isn't actually legal at all and is just the legal font with a shadow to make it look 3D but also making it illegal... Lol...

You can always put a 'CYM' sticker on your bodywork.

Yep, the guy down the street who does plates says that as of 1st Nov he needs the V5C, photo ID, semen and hair sample before he can make a plate. His words, not mine.

Is this going to retrospective - ie if you already have legal typefaced plates but they don't have a maker's postcode on the bottom are you liable to prosecution?

Surely they can't expect existing plates that are otherwise legal to be changed?
