    Default Spare Key cheapest option

    Hi All,

Can you help me with some advice.

I've recently bought a Signum in a private deal, however it only came with 1 key and no 'Car Pass'.

On phoning round the Vauxhall dealers they want £90.00p for the key, 3 button remote and getting a replacement Car Pass.

Now can I do it cheaper.

    1. Get the Car Pass from Vauxhall cost £15.00p
    2. Get a spare key cut. Someone once posted that 'Timpsons' (the people that reheel shoes) do it with the transponder chip. Cost £25.00p
    3. Buy a 3 button remote key of ebay.
    4. Find someone in Glasgow that will recode the key (Any advice outthere on where to go) excluding the Vauxhall dealer.

    All comments greatly appreciated.

P.S I've only recently registered for this forum and there's only one word for it Greeeeeeeeeeeeat

I don't really know the answers to the questions about the keys - whether Timpsons will cut those keys, who could recode etc.

What I was going to suggest was that you consider having the keys/locks changed!

You've bought a car in a private sale and they only had one key (did they say why there weren't two?) A classic 'scam' would then be for your pride and joy to go missing one day and, lo and behold, it was by someone with that spare key! You just don't know who has the key, who it was passed/sold onto etc.

If I'd just bought a car privately and it only had one key, apart from asking why, I'd be seriously considering getting the barrels changed/new keys/system reprogrammed.

Duncan is absolutley right, you have to change those locks, even if its for your piece of mind.

I thought about the fore going circumstances as well but to be honest I'm quite satisfied that the individual, whom I purchased the car from, will not reappear and nick my car.

The car was originally owned and used by Vauxhall and than purchased by a Vauxhall dealer. The seller whom I purchased it from was only provided with one key when he acquired it. Whilst I was at his home he phoned the garage and attempted to ascertain why he was only given one key.

However Belmont, Aberdeen(never return calls or get back to you) did not appear interested as thay had made their sale.

The seller has emailed me regular in his progress to obtain the second key but it looks like I'm going to have to go and get it myself.

As an individual who works in the law enforcement side of things if I had any doubt I would not have entered into the sale. Plus the seller knows I'm a cop so if the car dissapears one night by use of a true key I dont think I would have far to look.

Cant go around distrusting people all my life............can I.

    hi dazzh

just an important thing u need to know and others if they aint thought
on but if you change the locks then it wont stop the previous owner or
another person that may have the other key from stealing the car if they
are like that,as remember there is always the fob that locks and unlocks
the car so you will also have to change the immobiliser/code as its all
connected in the ignition module and also the opening of the doors, who
has b4 now used the actual key in the door lock, very rarely.

That's what I was meaning with my post earlier Andy. He'd need to get it reprogrammed (along with changing the barrels) so that the old keys wouldn't open the car/de-immobilise it.
