Default Geek rant - Scan are idiots.

Finally got round to buying 3 new drives for the little server for the house. 3 Samsung 750GB units to go together in RAID5 to give 1.5TB of storage for myself and the two other guys I share the house with.

So, ordered off Scan the other night, and they were delivered today. If I'd have been home I wouldn't have accepted the delivery, because 3 drives were packed together in an alltogether too small package in a Citylink bag.

Opened the package and there's the 3 drives bundled together with 2 layers of bubblewrap round them. "This'll be good" I think to myself.

So, put the drives in to my little server, plug them in to my RAID card, fire it up. Immediately one of the drives starts making schreeching noises, and within 10 mins all 3 drives are totally knackered.

So, well done Scan. You've ruined £150 worth of drives by putting them in 2 sheets of bubblewrap and expect them to survive a plane trip to N. Ireland. Muppets. They'd probably have had more protection from a couple of Tesco bags wrapped round them.

Yeah, RMA already logged. Really annoys me that people waste perfectly good drives for the want of a box.

Don't normally buy of Scan, used to use Komplett all the time, but they pulled out of the UK.

Novatech don't seem to know that drives bigger than 320GB exist.

Juzzy, search under Storage, Hard-drives, see what you get. Plus they're a tenner too dear each.

I've used Overclockers a lot, but they didn't have the Samsungs in stock.

Thats ironic, as I am actually waiting for Scan to send me a replacement Sapphire 4870 video card back that packed up last week (only 2 months old) , one of the voltage regulators burnt out, they received it last wednesday and the RMA tracking says its been tested by their engineer and confirmed its faulty, which would'nt have taken much skill to do especially as you could see the burnt out chip on the pcb board. Still no sign of it being dispatched yet.

I've used Scan for possibly 20 years without too many problems, the bosses name is Shelley though I'm unsure if he ever spends much time there these days. Had no problems at when I lived in Lancashire as it was easy to return stuff direct to their shop near the Bolton Rebok stadium (just off the M61) right pain now though.. having to wait for the postal system to do their bit.

Samsung drivers are okay, I have the 1TB F1 in my system... good drives and very cheap now too.

Hope you get your drives sorted out matey.. give them a Bo****ing.

I take you point about the links on the left (but look under Components at the top), but their price for a Samsung 750GB 32MB cache is £58.74 while Scan's is £59.91...
