    Default 1.9cdti clutch problems

Sometimes when the car is parked but the engine running it produces a rattling noise from the front left. At first i thought it was something lose checked all the plastic covers but nothing everything is tight. The other day when it happened i decided to de-press the clutch and the noise went and when i brough it back up the noise came back and could feel the pedal rattle slightly. The car has done 126000 miles prevoius service records do not show of any clutch change. Is this something serious or does it require an expert to look at or listen to being the case.

There is a bearing that spins when you release the clutch (press the clutch-pedal), and this bearing is probably defective. - I think this could be the cause of the sound/rattle in the pedal.
To replace this, it is the same job as changing the clutch, so perhaps a good idea to overhaul the clutch as well when it is changed.

    Hi !!
I have same thing. And noises only when engine is cold !!
I can hear rattling noise every time when engine is idling.
Or I can really hear the clearly.
But question is how danger it is for engine.
What can happen in a future. Will this can be a big problem or not?

my rattle seems to come and go as it pleases it's annoying because some days its realy loud other days nothing at all. Plus im supprised the front left drive shaft and wishbone aint been damaged yet with the amount of times my dad hits the pavement in a bid to get it into a parkin space. Is it with old age that people think its easier to just drive into the spot then swing out an reverse in cuz im sure its allot eaiser to reverse in which doesnt involve any mounting the pavement

hi i think i have the exact same problem as yourself.

there is a rattling noise coming from the engine near the passenger side. it comes and goes at different times. when it does come though, it remains present in idle and disappears when i press the clutch pedal all the way in.

i have recently fitted the entire clutch kit but seem to be having a burning smell coming whn reversing but not driving normally, do you have the same problem? and can anybody please tell me what is going on and are the two problems related?

Have a look for DMF (dual mass flywheel) problems, will explain what the rattling is.

Sometimes it's the friction clutch on the DMF that slips.

DMFs have a built in friction clutch that is designed to prevent excess torque being put through the gearbox. You can get away with it maybe a couple of times before it eventually cries enough. Normally they don't slip unless other parts of the DMF are faulty or the car has been subject to "driver abuse" or "modification" as VX like to call it.

Sounds like the dmf, bearings would only rattle when the clutch pedal pressed, but the DMF will rattle slightly all the time and especially noisy when the clutch is held at the biting point.
