I have recently been having troubles and have taken my 04 Signum 2.2dti Auto to my local vauxhall dealer. It's A long story so please bear with me.
1. About 3 weeks ago I got the "safe mode" warning light and the engine mamagement light on the dash. Booked in at VX nextday.
2. Got told by VX vacuum pump for exhaust knackered £140.00 to fix it, so they did.
3. Two days later lights back on the dash, booked back in at VX and they said they couldn't find anything wrong and reset the faults/computer.
4. On monday of this week the lights back on the dash so booked it in again at VX didn't drive it on tueday apart from to VX which is about half a mile away from my house. They called wednesday and said that the oil coolant had leaked and had mixed with the gaer box fliud so they needed to fix the leak and swap the fluids. I agreed for them to do the work. Today I had a call from them to say the had done the work but the lights were still on the dash and this means that I need a new Gearbox at the measly cost of £3100.00.
I have not had any problems with the gearbox (which is automatic) changing gears or grinding etc other than when the car is in "safe mode" and I can only select gears 2 and 5. This is normal according to VX. Other than that the gearbox runs nice and smoothly. The car has only done 38,000 miles from new and I am suprised if the gearbox is damaged.
If the gearbox is damaged could this be to excessive driving and could it have been prevented if the problem had been spotted earlier?
