    Question Diesel Starting Tips Please

Is there a particular way of starting a diesel engine, well not actually starting it as such i mean do you have to have it ticking over a while before you set off or just quite literally fire it up and set off as you would a petrol engine? Brand new to this diesel game so any tips/advice would be most welcome please. Thanks. P.S; I'm almost sure i've seen some earlier threads on this issue and if i remember rightly people's opinions were rather varied to say the least.

What I tend to do is put the key in, turn it to the ignition point, where all the lights come on, then put my seatbelt on, by this time the glowplugs if needed have done their thing, switch on and go.

I just switch on and go, only on a cold morning do I wait for the glow plug light to go out.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Always let the lights go out, then start, then let it idle for 10 seconds or so just to get the oil going, and the same at the end - stop, handbrake on, let it idle for 10 seconds or so to settle down, then turn off...

No, but tbh has anyone really read the manual and taken it all in? I'm sure mine hitting the rev limiter does more damage than not waiting 10 seconds for the oil to move around. But saying that its probably that long by the time I have put the lights on etc

not 100% but when i test drove a 2.2dti thevx dealer told me i didn't have to wait for the glow plugs to heat as they heat up as soon as u unlock the car. but with any diesel i would still give it the time it takes to stick ya seat belt on and a couple of secs extra on extra cold days.hth
