Default Your thoughts on this please.....

When in work last night, at about 10.30pm or so, I saw a white Transit Van doing (and I paced him!) no less than 80mph in a 30mph limit.
Silly boy driving didnt see my marked up Police Car until I had followed him for nearly a mile before lighting him up.

I'm not going into the way taht I dealt with the lad driving, but what sort of punishment do u lot think should be dished out for that sort of speed in a built up area?

    !

There's no excuse for driving at that speed in a 30! You say "boy"...how old was he?

Although it is night time, I still think its dangerous as anyone could pop out from in between car's, although there wont be kid's around at that time.

Someone once said to me that if you are doing more than double....its 6 points or instant ban? IS this not correct?

I'll bet that person already has points on his licence or has had!

6 Points and a hefty fine IMO!???

I pointed a few things out to him:
    1. He was driving along the edge of a housing estate - pubs were emptying out around that time.
2 He already had 9 points - for speeding and has only been driving 5 minutes.

He began to use that old fashioned "I'm not @rsed" smirk so I asked if he thought he was an experienced driver. Guess wht, the muppet said "YES I AM!!!"

I pointed out my Police driving qualifications (pursuit training etc etc) and also that I am an IAM member. I then said that I still wouldnt call myself an experienced driver. Cheeky get just laughed and smirked again!

If he had hit a car or a person at that speed he could have killed them, himself and potentially caused carnage on that road.

If memory severs me right, he was 20

Our local magistrates seem to be quite soft on speeders. The last one i caught doing 60 (on the same road!) got off with 3 points and 100 quid fine. Could have just given him a ticket. I'd like to think that more than double the limit = Instant 6 to 12 month ban and another driving test to get your licence back

no excuse for that kind of speed in built up areas (which obviously this was if it was 30mph) ...
