    Default Alarm Prob?

right..comparing a mates car today and talking bout the deadlocks...
think I might have a problem with the alarm...here goes..
with the windows wound down (drivers and passenger) and car locked...double lock on alarm fob...can you open the front passenger door by lifting the lock button...(through the window)... 1)is the alarm supposed to go off and 2) are you supposed to be able to open this door as its supposed to be deadlocked!..on mine you could open both the door, and the alarm didnt go off...only went off when you opened the drivers door!

    1) yes, alarm should go off when you stick your arm in (assuming it was far enough in to be detected by the ultrasonic detector.

    2) No, shouldn't be able to unlock the door if you double locked it.

I'd have thought the alarm will go on any door being opened, not just driver's door. Never tested it myself, but can't be right. Sounds like you have a problem.

Isn't that microwave alarms that detect when you stick your arm in? Ultrasonics usually only respond to sound, such as glass breakage.

It's definitely ultrasonics in the C/Signum - you'll tend to find microwaves in convertibles.

You can usually tell by the shape of the sensors - the little round microphone type things are ultrasonics which only respond to sound as far as I know, not movement.

I was just going by what the Thatcham site said - it lists ultrasonics in the Vec C/Signum, not microwaves. And whatever it is definitely detects movement.

Anyway, in relation to this thread it's all really irrelevant. If Dwabo's isn't detecting him when he sticks his arm in then it sounds like he has a problem, along with the other things.

Dwabo, when I see you tomorrow at the SE Meet, you can show us what the problem is and see if any of us can shed any light.

I have to say the alarm system did concern me on my C last year. Mine went for a service and i was unaware of a fault on the alarm system that was found during service. The sounder was defective but i had no way of knowing until there was need for it to be triggered (eg: break in).

I asked the dealer why the ecu hadn't shown fault on the display with the alarm system bearing in mind the amount of checking and sensors on the C. They couldn't give me a clear answer, bit of a concern that your alarm system can have a major fault and the car doesn't report it.

    Poor really,

    Paul.
