    Default Turbo and BSR Maps

I have a full Stage 3 BSR, My exhaust ant turbo have been damaged in a rear end shunt, typical insurance job now. the guy accepted was his fault and quotes are in to be agreed. the turbo was shunted by the exhaust and a bolt sheered off on it. i spoke to Turbo Technics, they will fix the turbo and then get it back to me. while the turbo is off they said they could mod it to be/simulate a hybrid turbo, 1st is this possible?? and ive spoken to justin at Bsr and he says to speak to bsr them selfs for a custom map to cope with this, 2nd, Is this worth it? 3rd What sort if any problems could i get??

    Technically, anything's possible.

However, for BSR to write a custom map would probably involve them keeping your car for quite a long time, and would no doubt cost some serious money to cover their R&D costs. And that's if they'd even consider it in the first place...

IMO, just have it repaired to the state it was before the accident.

In theory it should be very traight forward, Turbo Technics should be able to supply the technical data for the hybrid turbo to Justin at BSR and then BSR themselves can alter the map to suit.

It's not ideal, as Parapaul has said to do it properly it is best to map it on the rollers. But it is possible.

If you run a hybrid and keep the mapping the same, you may find the car under performs.

BSR wouldn't write a custom map for my exhaust so I very much doubt they'll be willing to do one for a hybrid turbo. Even if you can supply the tech data they'll probably only do it at their research centre which is in Sweden and then even that is a big IF.

Have asked BSR about the Stage 4 question again recently and got a bit of an ars*y reply. Not clear if they do or not although it seems to be available for the Saab 9-3 175Bhp version. Basically told me not to ask the same question twice!! Last time I asked was about 6 months ago while waiting for my exhaust!! Cheeky sods!

    Back to topic

I would just get it sorted as it was before as another member has said. Less grief that way.

Alternatively if you are going to modify the turbo go to a tuning specialist and a better intercooler and up rate the con rods etc Go the whole hog.

There 'should be' a stage 4 and 5 available early next year, so i have been told. BSR will do the custom map but it will be mega bucks so will be giving it a miss for now. the car is in at the mo getting a total respray and looking for the new interior now,
