What would it cost to exchange the engine - minus the cost of replacement engine?

why mate what ya done to ya old lump ?....

as a rough guide and trust me its rough ... aprox 8 hours ..so depending on ya labour rate ...say £80 ...8 x £80 ...plus the dreded ..plus fluids and filters and aircon regas ...so a fair bit ...but it all depends on labour rate and if the people fitting will do it for a set price ...

The average labour rate for a smaller garage is about £20-25 per hour.
So I recon your going to be in the range of £500-600 assuming its a straight forward job.
I depends on how much stuff is going to need transfering from one block to another ie clutch, turbo, alternator, AC pump etc. I'd recon on it taking 2 full days but expect the car gone for at least a week.
If your not in a rush you may be able to get a better hourly rate.

Also consider when fitting an engine is it worth putting a clutch in while the gerbox is off and it a good ideal to do the timming belt if it has one.

It took me 8 hours to get the automatic gearbox off mine!
It would have been quicker for me to remove the engine and gearbox as one and strip them down out of the car I think but I just don't have the space.
