Default Looking for a laptop with FireWire connection....

For the price the spec is good IMO... not too sure about the processors.. would have prefered an Intel based platform...

look at e-buyer.com for laptops, acer are great laptops and I buy quite a lot of them due to them often being higher spec than the competition for the same money.

The reason the sales man would be recommending the Sony is that they get a higher commission on the sale of Sony laptops to acer laptops

Sony laptops are a bit of a triumph of style over substance. Certainly small, light and attractive but boy, do you pay for it. Also Sony are right up there when it comes to digital rights protection which can be a royal PITA.

As suggested, Acer are good (though personally I like Dell).

AMD chipsets are nothing to be afraid of.... in fact it's all we ever run..Just as fast as intel's without having to pay a premium for the name....never EVER had an issue with the processors ( even overclocked) in the years i've run them..
