    Default VW Sharan starting problem

    the other cars a sharan, n reg, 130k, we've had her 3 year and she's a great workhorse

    always starts first click no matter how long it was since she was last used.......

    until the last couple of weeks.....

    now sometimes on the first start of the day the engine just spins and spins until you stop then it gives a 'cough' as the key is turned off, second time of trying spins a bit then cough cough starts really lumpy then revs up and is fine for the rest of the day

    any ideas what to start looking at first??

    Sounds like a fuel problem,maybe cold start solenoid,when was it last serviced???

    was serviced in may, filters, plugs etc only done about 3k since

    should have said its a 2l petrol

    Most possible cause's are coolant temp sensor reading minus figure causing over fueling when cold or ignition coil starting to break down.

    omg thats really spooky,my partner has the same car but a p reg 2.0 and has
    done 136k miles and its a right heap and its
    done the exact same thing,it wud start of a morning but was rough running
    as if it was on 3 cylinders then we`d go out then stop the car then 10mins
    later and try to re start it but failed and had petrol fumes smell but after
    about 10 mins it wud start but rough as a bears ar*e,it was worse than this
    especially if it had been raining all night and damp the next day so i thought
    ***** this and had a look under the bonnet and surprise to me i found 3 small
    diameter hoses loose and wasnt doing anything so i found in were they shud
    connect to but 1 of the hoses that ran from the fiel injector rail has snapped
    off a valve at the back which is inline of the brake servo hose above the air
    filter,i re-conencted the other 2 which were loose at the front of the engine
    and then we again started to use it and since then its been a great
    runner,starts first time and lot smoother,just have to get that valve to
    replace but its still going well without any starting/running problems.


    this sharran is really going to be replaced with a zafira soon as i can
