    Default SRi 150 Cambelt/Chain

Hi all, have done a search, but confused...

I have a 55 reg 150ps SRi cdti Vectra facelift, just gone 63K Miles on it, have heard it has a chain and doesn't need replacing?

Does it have a chain or is it a belt that needs replacing, please enlighten me on this..

(will be doing the "spring sleeve mod" and antiroll bar bushes as well this week.

150 is a belt but has 80k intervals. But would recommend changing it at 60k along with the tensioners and water pump

CDTI 120 and 150 is deffo a belt as I had to have one of the bleeders changed (unknown at the time of purchase that it was belt driven).

Changing at 60k is good, better to be prudent although some Vx dealers actually told me that it 100k or 10 years but later changed.

Get it done mate, no point risking it, especially if you plan on keeping the car.

    Tx.

Am I right in assuming this is very expensive and a long job both to do yourself or for the dealer to carry out?

Expensive: yes, as is everything else with stealers.

DIY: ???? Good question, I wouldnt like to try it.

I had a few bits and pieces done at the same time, think it set me back about £350 - £400, or somewhere there abouts.

Still worth it though as a replacement second hand engine is minimum £750, and thats if you can find one.

Thanks for letting me know, i thought they it had a chain, and wasn't going to chnage it..

Anyway just ordered it from the local VX £111 for the full kit, not orderd the water pump, will check if needed. Also ordered the insulator sleeve for the spring knock/noise...

Just need to find a good place to get it done now, can't afford the stealers prices...

Things have changed a bit - the petrols are chain driven and the diesels belt, by and large...

Same as mate, I thought it were chain driven too until I read and advert for another car and rang Vx.

Beats me why the newer engines have belts and the older ones chains, should be the other way round.

I would get a new water pump at same time. You may do the job and put the original pump back on only to find it leaks after it is up to operating temperature, in which case, you will be doing at least half the job again. I had this experience on an old cavalier years ago.
