Default My review of Bilstein B2 dampers.

I posted up asking for advice on dampers either late last year or early this year, I can't quite remember. The general advice was for Bilsteins and B4s in particular, so I read up on the blurb from Bilstein about their dampers and went for the B2.

A bit of background, the car is actually my Mum and Dad's. It had the rear dampers replaced at 3 years old under warranty as they had failed, within 6 months I could feel them starting to deteriorate after another 13 months the car was feeling worse over our less than smooth Derbyshire roads than before the rear shocks were replaced. The body control of the whole car was becoming poor to the point of making rear seat passengers feel ill. It was at this point I persuaded them to upgrade the dampers all round.

So I did the work, researched and ordered the dampers then found somewhere to fit them. While they were doing it they replaced a broken spring with standard rate pattern parts.

The difference, it has to be said, is amazing. The body control is pretty damn good and even after 9k miles and 9 months there is no sign of them going off.

The car, being an Elegance, has the softer spring rating and while it does make the ride a tad stiffer at low speeds, once you are up to 30mph it is much better.

In all honesty, I'd say if you are looking to retain the comfort then the B2 is a great choice and leave the B4 for the sporty people.

Oops, meant B4. There is no B2.

Leave the B6 for the sporty people. Too late to edit.
