    Default Goodyear NCT-5

Is it just me, but does the Goodyear NCT-5 feel like it wants to kill you in the wet?

It doesnt even have to be that wet for them to make me feel uneasy, Or could the be down to more than the tyre?

I'm a very big fan of the Vredestein Ultrac. I was a Bridgestone user for years, and the odd time Goodyear.

My Astra actually has a pair of Ultrac and a pair of Eagle F1-Aysmmetric. The Ultrac were new on the front when I got it, rear had Conti Sport2's and they were lethal even though they had 5mm tread. I replaced the Contis with Eagle F1-Asymmetrics.

I rate the Ultrac far above the F1-A. The F1-A wore twice as fast as the Ultracs. The F1-A is a serious letdown in my eyes, and I wonder how much Goodyear paid the magazines who gave them such a good writeup. The F1-A on the rear for 6000 miles and on the front 1000 miles has worn as much as the Ultracs did on the front for 15k miles.

So far the Ultracs are on the front of the Astra 20k miles and still have 3mm tread left. Grip is unquestionable, and only now they've hit 3mm is aquaplaning becoming an issue on drenched motorways.

The Ultracs are about £75 fitted including VAT in 225-45ZR17 XL - £25 cheaper than the F1-A in same size but Y rating.

    Hope that helps.

Another negative vote for NCT5's. Still got them on the back, but glad to have got shot of them off the front.

Replaced with Goodyear GSD3's. Although wearing quicker than the NCT5's, they hold the road much better in the wet and dry.

Hmm..I think I'd have put the GSD3s on the back and wore the NCT5 out on the front. Get rid of them once and for all.

Once the NCT5's were replaced with GSD3's it transformed the handling. There is no way that I could revert to vague steering and understeer again while waiting for the 4 to 5 mm of tread remaining on the NCT5's to be worn down by being fitted to the front.

Strangely enough while the NCT5's are on the rear end, they aren't causing any issues.

    Unhappy

Mmmmm - Having had problems with Avon ZV3's on the front of my 3.0CDTi I have just wacked on NCT5's. Oh joy, however they seem OK but the wet weather performance on the Goodies is not so good as the Avons. The goodies don't have the rim saver side wall either.
