Default 1.9cdti 150 cut out on motorway

Basically, was on the motorway, started to lose a bit of top end power then it cut out. got on the hard shoulder and it restarted and then after a 20 secs it juddered and cut out. I checked the filter for water, it just ran clean fuel out so luckily for me had the tech2 in the boot, i had 2 DTC's first was low rail pressure, second was positive deviation of the fuel pressure solenoid. I got a live view of the commands and actuals of the engine and went to the fuel pressures. When i went to start it it demanded 30Mpa and it showed 30 then it demanded 25 and it stayed at 25 for 20 seconds or so. the pressure then started to drop until it got to about 12 and the engine juddered and stopped. the pressure then dropped off to about 0.6. I done all this whilst waiting for the RAC man to tow me back. i have recently changed the fuel filter and done about 500miles since then with no problems. the housing was fully washed out and cleaned before refittng. I now have to try figure what is up, my first inclination is a faulty pressure solenoid but it could also be the fuel pump.

Any ideas from anyone in the know?

    thanks ste w

not heard of a field remedy for this one but had one on a 3.0CDTi where it was kangarooing and juddering because the Fuel Required could not match the Fuel given, turned out to be 2 constant suction valves on the fuel pump causing it, suspect it could be something similar?

Hmm, doesn't sound too promising then. Well I'm going to change the solenoid as that is 'only' £70, then re-test it, if that solves the problem I'm OK. If not it will have to be a new pump. The car is out of warranty by about 9 months so not going into the dealers with it just yet. I am a fairly competent mechanic so i would buy a refurbished exchange pump and fit it myself, but this is still £900.

If anyone wants to fix it in exchange for a Tech2 be my guest haha.

    Now sorted.

Turns out that the fuel filter seal was letting air in and causing the problems. When I changed the fuel filter it didn't have a new seal(halfords) so i reused the old one which had expanded. I bought a new filter and seal kit from Vauxhall. Fitted this and it now all works perfect.

    Lesson learnt!
