Default Lumpy pickup 1.9 CDTi SRi 150

Hi - bought an 08 plate Vectra SRi 150 a couple of weeks ago, I'm notincing a possible problem, when driving along in 3rd, 4th or sometimes 5th back off the accelerator coast and when I put my foot down again the car sort of jerks before accelerating?

If the revs and conditions are just right the car jerks and then takes a second to respond? is this something to do with the fuel shut off (economy) ?

Is it normal for the 1.9 150 to do this? any help before I go to main dealer would be great!

    Thanks.

Mine does it too, always did. Probably the fuel pressure drops and doesn't come back quick enough.

Thanks for the reply - the revs are about 2200 to 2500rpm in 3rd or 4th it's most noticeable, feels like a sudden jerk and then a second before the power comes on?

Yeah, about the same as mine, in 5th about 60-70mph coasting down a big motorway hill (3 miles maybe), then hit the gas at the bottom and the car actually slows down before speeding up again. It's not so bad in 6th as the revs are a bit lower (1800rpm @ 70 in 6th on the Astra).

Hmm, EGR valve possibly needs replacing then? My car has only done 15k but it just doesn't seem quite right. No warning lights on the dash yet though.

Can the EGR valve be cleaned at all? Anyone know if this is a common problem with the Vectra?

Thanks again for all the advise.

There are some How-2's on the site giving details how to clean the EGR valve, not that I've done it myself.
I assume its under warranty and if so I would get the dealer to have a look at it, which is what I did for virtually the same symptoms, I didn't have any warning lights on either. I think I had about 25K miles on mine at the time, when I picked it up they just said it was the EGR valve and had replaced it, certainly resolved the problem I was getting.
Problem is...d/engines are getting so complex these days with all the emission control bits they have added its often easier to let the dealer sort it out, especially if its under warranty, assuming you can find a good dealer that is.

Will take it to main dealer for sure. It's only 7 months old, though I only bought it 2 weeks ago it should be under warranty I guess.

Found a thread for the EGR valve cleaning under -

how to clean z19 egr valve (proper method)

Great photos and looks quite easy. Though I'll try the warranty before fiddling!

    Cheers.
