    Default Cars broken

Well the car suffered a massive loss of power this morning on the way to work. Decided to run on 3 cylinders on the motorway, so i managed to limp to work and get it towed to a local vx garage. Won't find out till Monday what's up with it so i'm car-less

Should have my mums Astra over the weekend but i think i'll manage without it for a few days........ not pulling my hair out like i did with the diesel lol

Yep. I replaced the coil pack and plugs and that made no difference.

The only light it showed was the emissions. The recovery guy said that it part of the engine management system so it would need to be taken to a garage.......

It'll show the emissions light cos its putting fuel into a cylinder thats not being burned (Either not burned at all, or not burned completely).

Mine did something similar to this a few weeks ago...

It seemed to run really cr4ppy, and temp gauge was up 'n' down like a wh0res drawers!!!

Turned out the temp sender was telling the ECU it was something like a billion degrees below absolute zero, so it overfuelled like cazy...

Hope you get it sorted... cheaply.

Have you found out if you cross threaded the plug/head yet Tam? And did the coil pack smell of fuel this time?

Why would a cross threaded plug cause this?

The blow-by on a plug that is almost completely unscrewed is (in relation to the volumes generated by combustion), simply non-existant above anything but very low speeds.

Even if blow-by were occuring, the fuel/air mix would still ignite (if the spark was good),just with reduced power.

He said the plug was in slightly offline in his opinion and the coil pack would not fit properly on the plug because of this. When he removed the coil pack it stank of fuel. Tams running another thread on the 2.2 forum, hence a question to something he hasnt posted on here.

    Ahh,I see now!!

Still think the only way that could cause said problem, was if the coil-pack didnt make contact with the spark plug.

    Hope he gets it sorted...

He's replaced the coil pack, reset and it drove fine for a day. His performance symptoms are exactly the same as Vids 2.2 and that turned out to be his top Lambda. But Tams problems started as soon as he replaced the plugs. With the first batch of plugs he found one of the new ones was faulty, there was no gap on the electrode, so only firing on 3. This led to a new one and still problem persisted, the coil pack was the next to be fitted and this leads us to where we are now.
