    Default TMC messages

I got my '06 siggy elite with the Cd70 navi, a couple of weeks ago minus the driver and satnav/audio manuals, the stealer has ordered replacements but Im still waiting . My question is regarding TMC - are there voice alerts or is it only visual alerts? ( I had an omega before with Traffic Master and living near the M25 I found the voice alerts useful)

It's done by voice alerts. E.g. "Warning stationary traffic in 5 miles" The map also changes t0 show where the hold ups are.

Mine has done a decent job TBH. Saved me 45 mins a week last Friday on the journey home by diverting me off the motorway.

Is there a way to have announcements if sat nav is NOT active - I.e. just diplaying map but not following a route?
I always put sat-nav on for the journey to/from work just incase it alerts me to a hold-up (and it has saved me time before now too). I obviously know the way and don't need reminding to take the 2nd exit at the roundabout LOL!

It would be good if I could put the sat-nav map on and still have alerts. Is this possible?

EDIT: the TMC system I have found to be slightly unreliable in the past. I.e. I have ignored warnings to divert around a hold-up, only to find the problem is not actually there!

If you use the Info button and select TMC you can review the messages on screen - but not to be recommended while driving!

Thanks for the replies lads, I wasnt sure if I should get voice alerts or not after sitting for over 1/2 hour in traffic jam on monday morning at the M25/M4 junction. The only thing that came up on the satnav was that it wanted to recalculate the route which I thought was a bit pointless when I was stuck and going nowhere . Ive had a look at the link to the Satnav manual but couldnt see anything that related to voice messages or how to set it up. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Having been out on the roads between the Midlands and Crieff in Scotland last week I found that when the M8 was blocked by a broken down crane I did get a voice message that warned me of stationary traffic 2 miles ahead...
So it DOES give audio as well as the markers on the map.

I fitted the old Traffic Master kit in my Vectra These appear now and again on ebay. its not easy to wire in but I found it was worth it. You would need the autoleads kit to do it and make sure you get a TM with the aerial and all the leads including the switch. I just done a quick check on ebay and there are no complete ones

Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

I did that as part of the deal on my previous 2.6 V6 GSi as in May 2002 it was one of the last batch built and VX deleted the TM unit because they were fitting the OnStar system - which I have never ever seen or heard mention of...

That said I am VERY pleased with the performance of the SatNav/TMC unit in the 2008 Siggy Elite.
