Default Can anyione help repair my gearbox on 3.2?

My 3.2 Gsi has started whining in gear.

Is there anyone on here can repair this for me?

I have been quoted £680 to fix, but can't really afford that tbh.

    I am willing to travel

When you say, whine in gear, is it every gear? Does it change with vehicle speed, gear selection, acceleration, cruise and lift off coast down?
Does it still happen in neutral and coasting along? When in gear and clutch depressed etc?

Answering a few detailed questions could narrow down the search for the failed part (probably a bearing from what you're saying)

How do you know it is defo the gearbox?

I don't know for sure but fairly certain it is.

Its does it in every gear, is more noticeable in the lower gears 1-2-3 and seems to get worse when you take you foot off the accelerator.

Iam assuming its the bearings somewhere. don't think its the front diff? but not sure.

I "think" the symptom of worn bearings is that when in neutral, the noise disappears or gets noticably quiter when you press the clutch.

That would be geartrain bearing issues. When in neutral, a fairly rapid lifting off clutch pedal may procude a continuous noise.

To offer good advice, we would probably need further info as to exactly when the whining happens and doesn't happen. Only then could it be narrowed down

3.2's used to suffer with bad gearboxes that wore out bearings quickly. VX replaced them quietly.....

if you can't find a box at a dismantlers, it will have to be recon'd....either way it's going to be several hundred quid...
