Default what is the best make of oil

Im going to change the oil in my 1.8 engine and from threads ive seen it says 5w 30 fully synthetic, now after popping down halfords this morn there are quite a few with varying claims like magnatec etc with big price differences so does anyone swear by any one make or type?

I always used magnatec too. Always used to use 10/40 , but everyone recommends 5/30 so think I will try that next.
I usually wait until theres an offer on, and get it ready for the next change.

Any links to verify that, because Vauxhall's website recommends 10w/40 or 5w/30 depending on the year of manufacturer. Can't see why Opel are suggesting something different to Vauxhall - the only thing being different is the badge.

    .
ts a bit weird, but the engine in mine is also used in Renualts. Renualt say it should use 5w40 where VX say 5w-30. Its all down to MPG figures i guess.

TBH I also doubt there is much difference between all the major brands of oils and Halfords own etc. They must get it from somewhere too, anyone know where?

Probably comes down to different extreme temperatures that Opel and VX cars are used in?
