Default Road Noise / Rumbling rear wheels solved?

I've seen many thread with the rumbling/noisy tyres issue on here - I even started my own thread!

I think I have conclusive evidence of the cause - and it is down to Bridgestone tyres which I beleive are what are fitted when the Veccy leaves the factory.

I swapped over my rear Bridgestones with the from Michelins the other day and immediately I noticed a difference. The road noise increase substantially but appeard not to be coming from the rear but from all around. I could feel a vibration from the accelerator pedal and from the foot rest. Very uncomfortable.

While I was changing the tyres I notices that some of the blocks on the inner shoulder of the Bridgestone has marks reminiscent of perishing rubber, and also that they were slightly raised by about 1mm or so. Because of this they had picked up the light sand-dust colour from the base of my garage so that the height problem was even more obvious. See below the bridgestone with the suspect blocks marked:

For comparison the tread of the Michelin (completely even):

Can anyone else confirm they have the same symptoms and this perhaps can be put to rest as the final solution to this problem. Needless to say I'll be getting some replacement tyres as the idea that only a few of those blocks are properly in contact with the road is a bit un-nerving!

ER30? The remaining pair on the back of my mother's Mazda are the same, thankfully she doesn't notice, or care, and they're about due changing soon anyway.

it's not the tyres.... the inner edge wear is caused by the camber alignment on your car being out. a decent 4 wheel alignment will sort that issue out and save your new tyres looking like that in 10,000 miles..

You will need a 4 wheel align and a rear camber align.. for a quality job, can i suggest using this site to find your local 'hunter' centre.. www.alignmycar.co.uk

    As Mark has said above
I had similar problems all round on mine, down to the wheel alignment.
Get a decent place to set it all up for you, & they will show you how far your adjustments are out

Aahh! Perhaps I should have read a few more threads on the subject. I honestly thought there was something funny about the Bridgestones.

How has this happened? The car has mostly done motorway mileage. Speed humps?

Yes you may Gsi, and thanks for the link, how much is this likely to cost?

normally it happens because of slight suspension wear.. also poor factory setup.....

what you pay depends on how much they adjust...my local guys charge me £45 a go... others charge more.. you really need to phone for a quote on 4 wheel alignment with a rear camber setup..
