    Angry Gutted...

My laptop has crashed and the only way to fix it is to reconfigure it from scratch so I've lost a lot of sentimental things

    Waaaaaaaaait!!!

Before you reformat it and reinstall stuff and definitely lose it all, you can remove the hard disk and put it in another computer, or external housing, and read it as a secondary drive in another PC and (hopefully) recover the important data.

Steady on - unless the hard disk is physically broken there are tools around which can possibly recover some or all of your data. Whatever you do DON'T reformat the drive or rebuild Windows until you've looked at other possibilities. You may well be able to mount the laptop drive in another machine and read it from there.

Right, STOP what you are doing and find a mate/IT person to whip the drive out and recover your data first - then worry about reloading it.

If you were closer I'd have said pop it round!

    Its currently saying now....

Hardware problems were detected. To identify and repair these problems you will need to contact the computer manufacturer.
