    Default Irmscher Grille and Diesel's

Is it true that Irmscher Grille's are different for Diesel's than Petrol's?

Someone was saying to me yesterday that it has something to do with the air-flow and the design for the Diesel grille is slightly different?

    Can anyone comment on this?

    Thx.

There are three Irmscher grilles - the chrome top, the plain black, and the ghastly mesh.
Petrol or diesel engine is irrelevant, but apparently you can't put them on VXRs.

The grilles are the same - what you're thinking of is that the diesels have a blanking plate behind the standard grille to stop water being sucked into the engine. Water into a diesel is bad news. You can reattach the plate to the Irmscher grille, but most guys don't seem to have bothered when they've fitted the Irmscher grille.

Is that not a problem then? Will it not be sucking water in and causing long term damage?

Do I take it that this has nothing to do with air-intake then? Solely a water issue?

Yep, purely a water intake prevention thing. If you're concerned/want to be safe then all you do is refit the plate when you fit the Irmscher grille.

So is it really worth re-fitting it after fitting an Irmscher grille? Has anyones engine actually broke through water intake after removing it?

I asked the question in this thread http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread...ghlight=grille about removing it
