Default more pedal travel after upgrade to 314mm

    Hi all,

This weekend I upgraded my 302mm to the 314mm on my GSI.
But now the brake pedal does go further down than it used to, Is this correct?

They do work really well. Just have something nagging in the back of my mind.

All stuff fitted and bled correctly before you ask, I even bled the system 3 times and got a mate (qualified VW mechanic) to check it all over.
The only theory we could come up with was that the pistons in the callipers being bigger it takes more fluid to apply them.
Is that such a silly theory?

The other theory of course that its all in my mind.

I had the same when I put the VXR 322mm jobs on my Astra. Took a few weeks and then a good beasting for the pads to bed in, at which point the pedal returned to normal.

First few days the pedal was nearly hitting the floor, now they're solid as a rock.

When I upgraded my 302mm fronts to 314mm I never had any issue like that - nice and solid from fitment and tightened up a bit more as the pads bedded in.

When you say he pedal goes down further than before, how much are you talking about?

Thats because I was involved in their fitting.....and you and spikey got the benefit of the GSi man's expertise..

I wouldn't worry about an inch more travel - it may well firm up as the pads bed in.
