    Angry Steering Column Control Unit

    Hiya Guys,

I have got an electrical fault on my vectra c saloon tdi 2L diesel 2002, the brakes lights and back lights are coming on when I turn the ignition on, without me actually putting my lights on. This all started when the fuse in my cigarette lighter blew, I know this will probably make u laugh but... I pulled a fuse out while the car was running as I was in a rush!! The car then cut out so I put the fuse back in, the car started and all seemed well until I realised my turbo wasn't right, it doesn't rev over 3000 and my back lights and break lights are all lit up constantly until I turn off the ignition. Looking at the Haynes Manual the only fuse that appears to knock them off is the "F10 Steering Column Control Unit" could this be the cause of my problems as the manual doesn't say anything significant about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanx ditchp! I have tried that I had the battery off for about a week as I was using the works van. It was still the same I have put a new break switch on and changed the fuses and nothing! I have had it to a couple of mechanics but I can't really afford to go to the main dealer they have tried various diagnostic readers on some have had trouble connecting to the car and another came back as being a dead short circuit and a celenoid on the turbo was not working but then the same mechanic then told me it could be the CPU.
After having another weekend on it and looking at which fuse turned the lights off it seems to lead to the Steering Column Control Unit but I am unsure of what it actually does!

it's called the C.I.M. unit and controls all the column switched functions, but also ties in with all the other modules on the car to work a bit like a computer network...there could be up to 21 of these modules fitted dependant on your car and it's options etc..

if the CIM won't reset, it looks like you've either got some latched codes which a dealer or well equipped independant could clear, or you've got a blown unit..

either way, it's going to have to see some high end diagnostic equipment....

Sounds like the CAN connection to the Rear Electrical Centre is no good. The thing will be putting the tail lights on as a safety default.
