    Default chief constable you decide

Now dont get me wrong, i had alot of time for this bloke and thought he did a good job. a coroner today decided that he died from exposure mmmmmmmmmmm????????????? nothing to do with the fact that he was over the drink drive limit had been taking drugs and had just owned up to a dark and shady private life and had sent "suicide" texts. now then lets see suicide= no life cover payout accidental death =payout! call me cynical but i think the coroners conclusion is bent

Right. Sensible and interesting topic brought up here. Lets keep it on the straight and narrow please. The first sign of it starting the usual decent towards a free-for-all 'cop bashing' thread and it WILL be closed. I make no apologies for posting this so early in the thread because these sort of discussions usually do go awry. I'm all for free speech, but there is a fine line between that and contempt.

For my two penneth, it did sound very sus but without knowing the whole story it's supposition at best

As a serving officer in Merseyside, I had a great deal of admiration for Mr Todd. He was what I'd call a Bobby's Bobby and was frequently seen out on the streets with his Constables and Sergeants.
He managed to revive public satisfaction and was a truly good leader.
His private life should not have impacted on his professional life, but what happened was truly sad.
He will be remebered for being an inspiration to us all.

Many people leave suicide notes but dont do it, more a cry for help. To be fair I would have thought he did not intend to commit suicide by "exposure" so I think the coroner was right. He may have intened to take his life but "exposure" beat him to it. Chances are that if it happened on a warm day he would have lived even with the drink and drugs
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

Good point. We all know that with a skinful you never feel the cold, so he would have been unaware of his body temp plummeting.

You have to feel for his family at the moment. It's all been dragged out again today.
My Uncle committed Suicide by setting fire to himself in his car. It hit my poor old mum hard because he'd travelled over 200 miles to find her. If you Wales, you will know that the place names are weird. We think he just couldn't find where she lived. She still says after 15 years, that if he'd have phoned she could have stopped him doing it.

I personally think that people should remembered for the good things they did. None of us are squeeky clean... We all have skeletons in the closet.

Many life insurances don't pay out on suicide so IMHO it is fair for the coroner to say accidental unless there is clear proof otherwise.

I think with this verdict , & the others such as the officer that seemed to have a slap on the wrist when doing a stupid speed in his new police car gives joe public the idea that plod looks after plod...
