    Default Dreaded car and spanner!

    So here's the scenario...

driving north from Kent in the torrential rain (sunday, 05 oct), so not too fast, in the '05 150 tdci auto estate (22k) and the ****** spanner comes up.
Not knowing at the time what the consequence of stopping and switching off might be we pressed on for the last 95 miles at reduced power (didn't fancy stopping on the M25 anyway).

Of course, get home, switch off, then back on and hey presto! the spanner's gone. Read the handbook and it said it could be a blip- but what's the likely cause?

Just a bit unnerving not knowing that's all. I suppose the stealership can read the brain and tell me the code?

    best,
    Dave.

See if it comes back then get it read
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

Had a lot of these spurious spanners over the last 4 years, never been an issue yet (98k so far) & they always went away after stopping or overnight. Its pretty bad really cos now I just ignore it when I see one. Come to think of it, I haven't seen one in the last 20k or so....maybe its all settled down now!

Thanks for the responses. I didn't realise that they could occur almost at random!
I guess when something goes outside the parameters, then it records it as an event even though it's not really a danger.
Just wondered why heavy rain should have any effect - that was the only 'unusual' condition prevailing.
Or is it a case of being too sensitive for it's own good? Hence Col ignoring it.
Bit daunting the first time tho.

Consider youself lucky, my 05 cdti lost all power and cut out, when I went to restart it the car and spanner light came on but the car wouldn't start, eventually got it running but had no electrics.
Long story short I'm about to fork out £1300 for a new alternator and intake manifold. Apparently it is fairly common for these to just give up on the cdti's but since mine is out of warranty I have no comeback.
I just hope your's is just a glitch and doesn't get any more serious.
